COVID-19 has brought unprecedented disruption to our region’s education and childcare systems.
Many students had to assist their families financially and even support younger siblings with their studies, neglecting their own. Essential workers were left without childcare as they also tried to navigate the crisis.
The pandemic has shed light on the inequities that exist for students who have historically faced barriers to pursuing higher education.
It has also raised the need for new approaches to grantmaking that will responsively enable community solutions and inspire collaboration and regional cooperation to realize affordable, quality childcare.
The Fostering Equity of Opportunity pillar of our Strategic Plan reflects a pathway for The Foundation to continue affecting change in scholarship and childcare philanthropy, and take a leadership role in assuring educational and career attainment for students and families trying to overcome systemic inequities, and equitable early care and education for working families.
