Supporting Immigrant & Refugee Childcare Providers
Launched in partnership with Price Philanthropies, Steps to Family Childcare Success (STEPS) is a collaboration between Chicano Federation, Horn of Africa, International Rescue Committee and the Center for Excellence in Early Development at San Diego State University.
STEPS supports San Diego County’s immigrant and refugee family childcare providers, which are licensed small businesses usually based in private homes and often run by women.
STEPS is a 14-week, in-language, culturally appropriate entrepreneurship coaching and technical assistance program for providers in the:
- Somali refugee community in City Heights
- Latinx immigrant communities in City Heights and Barrio Logan
- Afghan and Iraqi communities in El Cajon
STEPS’ human-centered approach incorporates each community’s unique strengths and needs, ensuring the inclusion of provider voices and culturally informed program implementation.
