January 5, 2015 – San Diego, CA – The San Diego Foundation announced the 2015-2016 Community Scholarship Application for The San Diego Foundation Community Scholarship Program is available online now through February 4, 2015.
Using one online application, students can access more than 100 scholarship opportunities for the 2015- 2016 academic year, with awards generally ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
As the cost of higher education continues to rise, The San Diego Foundation and its donors are helping local students pursue their educational goals as the largest scholarship provider in San Diego County outside the university systems. Last year, $2.5 million was awarded to more than 800 students. Since 1997, more than $24 million in scholarships has been awarded to thousands of San Diego students.
Scholarships are available for:
- Graduating high school seniors
- Undergraduate students (community colleges or four-year universities)
- Graduate students
- Medical and professional school students
- Adult re-entry students
- Career/technical school students
- Teaching credential program students
Criteria for individual scholarships go beyond grade point average and include awards based on activities (such as arts, athletics or community service), gender, ethnicity and school district. Some scholarships are based on a specific life event, including children of divorce and students living in foster care, or target lowand middle-income families. A full list of criteria is available. Some scholarships can be renewed for multiple years, helping off-set the financial burden for more than the first year of school.
One of the unique features of The San Diego Foundation Common Scholarship Program is that Foundation donors have an opportunity to participate in the application review and selection process. Additionally, The Foundation hosts annual scholarship celebration events to congratulate awardees and provide donors and students the opportunity to meet in person.
The Common Scholarship Application can be accessed at sdfoundation.org/ScholarshipApplication. For questions, emailscholarships@sdfoundation.org or call 619-814-1343. The deadline to complete the application is Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1 p.m.
