May 10, 2019 – San Diego, CA – 4SRanch~Del Sur Community Foundation (4SCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, marked its 12th year of giving by granting $19,250 to strengthen the health and well-being of youth in the community. The grants were announced at the Annual 4SCF Grants Celebration at The Ranch House at Del Sur on May 9.
“The 2019 4SRanch~Del Sur Community Foundation grants reflect a commitment by our community members to support the development of some of the youngest 4S Ranch and Del Sur residents,” shared 4SCF Board Chair Deanne Hormovitis. “For over a decade, our members have played an essential role in growing a more vibrant 4S Ranch and Del Sur and we are proud to invest in programs that will further strengthen the health and well-being of our youth.”
4SCF is dedicated to improving the quality of life and meeting emerging needs in 4SRanch and Del Sur by increasing responsible and effective philanthropy; building a community endowment for the benefit of the region; providing funds annually to community organizations and causes; and giving the community a vehicle for legacy planning and gifts that will benefit 4S Ranch and Del Sur now and forever. In the past decade, 4SCF members have granted more than $266,000 to nonprofit organizations working in the community to grow a more vibrant region.

The 2019 grantees include:
Del Norte High School Music Boosters ($6,830)
The grant will enable Del Norte High School Music Boosters to purchase new percussion equipment, specifically snare drums for its growing Instrumental Music Program. Now serving more than 230 students, the program provides students with opportunities to pursue their passions and support the community through outreach programs, such as local parades and performances. By replacing equipment that has been in use since the beginning of the program and adding to the number of drums available, the grant support will allow more students to participate in the marching band for the 2019-2020 season.
Oak Valley Middle School – Poway Unified School District ($5,920)
The grant to Oak Valley Middle School will support the Oak Valley Peer Leaders (OVPL) program, a yearlong elective course that provides students the opportunity to serve as positive role models in the community and promote healthy behaviors among their peers. Drawing from the fields of public health, social work, and leadership development, OVPL participants learn about the social, emotional and health issues that impact today’s youth so they can affect positive change in the lives of their fellow Oak Valley youth.
Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego ($5,000)
The grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego will support the CHARACTER COUNTS! Program, which teaches students in grades K-8 the academic, social and emotional skills necessary to succeed today and into the future. The program utilizes six pillars of character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship – to foster positive change and character development. CHARACTER COUNTS! includes 6-week sessions followed by opportunities to participate in and move through the 4S Boys and Girls Club leadership groups.
Poway Unified School District Running Clubs ($1,500)
The grant will support running clubs at four elementary schools in 4S Ranch and Del Sur, including Design39Campus, Del Sur, Monterey Ridge and Stone Ranch. According to the Center for Disease Control, many children today don’t get enough exercise and the result is a rise in childhood obesity. Running Club programs help reverse these health trends by motivating children to be active, as well as teaching young people to set long-term goals and put in the effort to reach them.
