May 30, 2018 – San Diego, CA – 4SRanch~Del Sur Community Foundation (4SCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, today announced $25,000 in grants that will strengthen the health and well-being of children and older adults in the 4S Ranch and Del Sur communities. The grants were announced in front of nearly 200 community members at the Annual 4SCF Grants Celebration at Local Firehouse #2 on May 20.
“The 10th Annual 4SRanch~Del Sur Community Foundation Grants Celebration demonstrated just how far the commitment to community stretches among local philanthropists, families and other 4S Ranch and Del Sur residents,” shared 4SCF Board Chair Deanne Hormovitis. “For the past ten years, our members have played an essential role in growing a more vibrant 4S Ranch and Del Sur by investing in programs that address the most pressing needs of the community.”
The 2018 grants underscore the importance of supporting the health and well-being of children and older adults in 4S Ranch and Del Sur. For example, the adolescent period of development between childhood and adulthood is often fraught with change and new challenges. Grantee SOLE Effects recognizes the impact mentorship can have during these early teenage years. Thanks to the grant from 4SCF, SOLE Effects will continue to provide Del Norte High School freshman with the support and tools they need to grow into strong leaders and active, positive members of the community.
The full list of 2018 grantees include:
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego – $7,200
The grant will help youth ages 5-18 achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship, and make healthy lifestyle choices. Through the organization’s Planet Health initiative, youth from diverse backgrounds will learn the importance of nutritional eating, regular physical activity, and making positive lifestyle choices to grow up to be healthy and happy adults.
Meals on Wheels Greater San Diego – $8,000
The grant will support the independence and well-being of seniors who live in the 4SRanch and Del Sur communities. Through the Senior Care in the Home program, Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers will deliver nutritious meals to older adults and provide safety checks that prioritize the well-being of each individual.
Poway Unified School District Running Club – $1,500
The grant will promote an active and healthy lifestyle among 4S Ranch and Del Sur students by supporting local running clubs at Poway Unified elementary schools. The running clubs will help combat obesity among local youth, while also inspiring self-discipline and teamwork among participants.
SOLE Effects – $5,500
The grant will provide more than 200 9th grade Del Norte High School students with an opportunity to go through the SWITCH Experience program, which focuses on growing leaders through influential role models. Led by 12 trained college leaders and 4 adult advisors, the program will address many common teen challenges, including depression, substance abuse, bullying and overuse of technology.
Write Out Loud – $2,800
The grant will support the 4SRanch/Del Sur Literature Initiative, which will bring cultural and artistic experiences to children and older adults in the community. Through live readings, Write Out Loud actors will inspire, challenge and entertain youth and seniors in the region.
4SCF is dedicated to improving the quality of life and meeting emerging needs in 4SRanch and Del Sur by increasing responsible and effective philanthropy; building a community endowment for the benefit of the region; providing funds annually to community organizations and causes; and giving the community a vehicle for legacy planning and gifts that will benefit 4S Ranch and Del Sur now and forever.
