WHO: | Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Adrian Gonzalez will join student scholarship recipients of the Gonzalez Scholarship Awards for the 3rd Annual “Gonzalez Scholars Give Back” volunteer event. |
WHAT: | Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez, with support from The San Diego Foundation, organize an annual volunteer event with scholarship recipients from the Gonzalez Scholarship Fund. The event is an opportunity for the Gonzalez family and students to give back to the community they grew up in, and celebrate the academic achievements of the recipients. This year, students will team up with Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez to volunteer at the San Diego Food Bank and help provide food to people in need. |

WHEN: | Friday, June 30 at 11:00am – 12:30pm The work portion of the event will be private due to site capacity. Press is encouraged to arrive for the closing portion of the volunteer work to capture b-roll and to hear closing remarks from Adrian. |
WHY: | Chula Vista native and Major League Baseball star Adrian Gonzalez and his wife, Betsy Gonzalez, have long been committed to helping local students achieve their dreams. The couple believes strongly in the potential of San Diego youth, and the value of educational support and community service to build a vibrant region. In 2009 they established a scholarship fund at The San Diego Foundation to empower underserved youth to go to college. Since inception, more than 65 students have been selected for the Gonzalez Scholarship. |
