June 13, 2024 – Carlsbad, CA – On Wednesday, June 12, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of San Diego Foundation (SDF), held its Annual Grant Awards Celebration and awarded $90,500 to seven local nonprofits that provide programs that promote civility, unity, community building and concern for the common good.

“With so much emphasis on things that may divide us, we were eager to champion civility and unity for this grant cycle,” said Bret Schanzenbach, CCF Board Chair.  “The projects being awarded will encourage respect, cooperation, collaboration and have a multigenerational impact in Carlsbad.”

Since 2008, CCF has granted more than $1.4 million to over 55 nonprofit programs.

The list of 2024-2025 grantees include:

  • Assistance League of North Coast – $25,000 for the Footsteps Program where Assisteens, its youth group, provide free shoes, socks and other supplies to children in need to help foster courtesy in the classroom.
  • Boys to Men Mentoring Network—$25,000 for the Boys to Men’s in-school Group Mentoring Program, which equips boys with healthy decision-making and social-emotional skills while teaching them resiliency skills, empathy and compassion for
  • Carlsbad Educational Foundation – $5,500 for Nobody Knows: Voices (Un)Muted, a student-driven collaborative project within Carlsbad High School’s visual and performing arts classes designed to expand educational experiences within CUSD and promote unity and community building for the common good.
  • Jefferson Elementary—$5,000 for Inside the Barrio—Learning to Tell Stories of the Past, Present and Future, a program that focuses on storytelling and improvisation through direct instruction, including research and communication skills.
  • Kids for Peace – $10,000 for The Grandfriends Kindness Project, a year-long intergenerational program that connects younger and older Carlsbad citizens, offering an uplifting opportunity to work together to create a culture of kindness, courtesy and connection.
  • National Conflict Resolution Center – $10,000 for its Certificate in Culture, Communication and Conflict, where diverse community volunteers will participate in the Certificate in Culture training together to facilitate collaboration between citizens who share common goals for a stronger community.
  • Showers of Blessings Carlsbad – $10,000 for Showers of Blessings Carlsbad, which provides participants with a hot shower, a hot meal and a bag of food to go and other necessities to foster a culture of respect, courtesy and emotional support.
