March 23, 2017 – San Diego, CA – The Clinton Foundation announced a new partnership today with The San Diego Foundation and the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency to build upon Live Well San Diego’s success in improving the health and well-being of children in the community.
The partnership, forged through the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI), will bring together local leaders and organizations to focus on children and families that receive assistance from local agencies in San Diego County.
This multi-year partnership builds on CHMI’s record of bringing together individuals, communities, and organizations to make meaningful, collective contributions to improve the health of others.
In the coming months, CHMI and its partners will engage a coalition of San Diego County agencies – both public and private – that provide care to children and families, including child welfare and juvenile justice.
This work aims to facilitate community collaboration and create systemic change by leveraging the success of Live Well San Diego, which spans the county and addresses the broad spectrum of indicators within the social determinants of health.
“Too often, children and families needlessly struggle because of gaps in the child health and welfare systems,” said Gillian Sealy, CEO of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative. “By addressing these gaps, we can help increase the number of children and families who are getting the help they need, and create pathways for them to succeed later in life. We are excited to work with The San Diego Foundation, the County of San Diego, and the broader community to build on their work to address this important issue.”

Over the next two years and beyond, this partnership will work to:
- Elevate the topic of disparities and inequities within the space of child welfare and juvenile justice, and facilitate a broader conversation on the current state of these systems;
- Convene key decision makers, change agents, and stakeholders from across San Diego County to build consensus around a common agenda, objectives, and best path forward;
- Present the outcomes of these findings, sharing a distillation of perspectives, data, and information related to the state of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and the factors that influence them; and,
- Launch a strategic plan based on findings to implement solutions that will improve the health and wellbeing of children and families across San Diego.
CHMI brings together individuals, communities, and organizations to make meaningful, collective contributions to the health of others, including efforts to address the opioid epidemic, improve workplace health efforts, strengthen health technology solutions, support the well-being of our nation’s veterans and their families, and create safer college campuses. CHMI also works alongside the communities of Adams County, Mississippi; the Coachella Valley of California; Central Arkansas; Northeast Florida; Greater Houston, Texas; and Knox County, Illinois to facilitate community health transformation efforts that are reaching approximately 8 million residents across the United States.
