February 3, 2025 – San Diego, CA – Coastal Community Foundation at San Diego Foundation announced today that it is now accepting grant applications ranging from $2,000 to $8,000 from nonprofits supporting music education and appreciation during summer and fall 2025 in North San Diego County.
Funded through the Betty Scalice Foundation, which supports nonprofit and school-based music programs serving North San Diego County, grants can support:
- Community concerts
- Youth musical performances
- Low-cost classroom musical instruments
- Classroom programs that offer music and performances at schools
- Low-cost equipment that supports the teaching of choral music
- Related programs that promote music appreciation
“We are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to support musical performances and experiences throughout North County San Diego County,” said Rachel Tennis, Betty’s granddaughter.
Betty Scalice credited her second-grade music teacher for inspiring an appreciation of music and understanding its part in an overall education; Scalice started the fund at Coastal Community Foundation in 2010.
“It’s an honor for us to uphold our grandmother’s legacy and continue her passion for music,” added Rebekah Medefind, also Betty’s granddaughter.
Nonprofits providing music in schools and public spaces can apply for grants ranging from $2,000 to $8,000 twice annually. Summer and fall 2025 programs are invited to apply between Feb. 3 through Feb. 28, 2025. Awards will be announced by April 2025.
Winter and spring 2026 programs can apply between July 21 through Aug. 22, 2025, with awards announced by September 2025.
