November 4, 2024 – San Diego, CA – The Coastal Community Foundation at San Diego Foundation (SDF) announced it will accept proposals for the Coastal Safe & Stable Housing Fund to support the well-being of seniors living in North County San Diego.

“This is the sixth year of the Coastal Safe & Stable Housing Fund, which has granted $410,000 to date,” said Bob Kent, Coastal Community Foundation grants committee chair. “In partnership with San Diego Foundation, our merged operations will make more dollars available to meet the needs of North County seniors in crisis.”

According to last year’s grantees, financial support between $700 to $3,400 helped caseworkers keep clients housed and out of crisis. Grant proposals are encouraged from qualifying organizations that provide just-in-time “flex funding” to bridge a short-term gap in resources to avoid eviction or homelessness or provide funds to keep clients out of crisis while focusing on long-term solutions (e.g., utilities, rent, medical bills, car repair, etc.) through homelessness prevention and/or diversion efforts. Homelessness diversion strategies employing flexible financial assistance, shared housing strategies and targeted case management can result in positive outcomes for individuals who are experiencing homelessness for the first time or who have existing support systems and the ability to end their homelessness without a long-term subsidy.

To be considered, grant proposals should focus on senior populations in North San Diego County and request funding between $10,000 and up to $40,000. Grant awards must be used within 12 months.

Coastal Community Foundation is hosting a virtual grant seekers forum at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. During the forum, Coastal Community Foundation grants committee members will be available to answer questions about the grant process and help organizations that are considering submission. Those interested in attending should RSVP by Nov. 12 to Eve Childs at coastal-grants@sdfoundation.org.

Proposals will be accepted until 5 p.m., Dec.18, 2024. Grant guidelines, including directions on how to register and apply, can be accessed at SDFoundation.org/apply.
