I am writing today to thank you for your continued support of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation where we believe in the importance of celebrating and investing in Carlsbad.
I encourage you to get involved in the success of our organization by attending some of our future events and sharing all of the amazing work we have done to support Carlsbad over the years. I look forward to serving as your Chair of the Board this year and seeing what this year has in store for us.
Grants Celebration
A quick recap: we had a successful Grants Celebration in June at the beautiful home of Carlton and Sandy Lund. For those of you that were unable to attend the grants celebration, we granted $70,000 to six nonprofits serving the Carlsbad Community.

The six 2016 Carlsbad Charitable Foundation grantees include:
- Basic Needs Program with Interfaith Community Services ($20,000)
- musicLIFE with Museum of Making Music ($20,000)
- Triple Play-Gardening with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad ($7,500)
- No More Breast Cancer / No Más Cáncer de Mama with Champions for Health ($7,500)
- Feeding Seniors in Carlsbad with Meals on Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. ($7,500)
- Crisis Intervention with Trauma Intervention Programs of San Diego, Inc. ($7,500)
I’m personally looking forward to this next grant cycle and can’t wait to see the impact we make next year.
Strategic Planning
The Board had a strategic planning meeting in June and had a meaningful September board meeting with President & CEO of The San Diego Foundation Kathlyn Mead to explore some ideas about future giving in Carlsbad.
The Grants Committee is finalizing the focus for our next grants cycle and will be hosting a Grantseekers Forum on November 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Office. We have a new Grants Chair, Gaylen Freeman, and his lovely wife, Shari Freeman, right by his side.
Membership Update and Events
As many of you know, we launched our Under 40 Membership earlier this year and we have seen steady growth in membership from younger philanthropists in Carlsbad. A special thank you to our membership committee and grants committee for the countless hours of time and commitment to the future of CCF.
We are growing our Corporate Membership, too.
CCF will be presenting in the two-minute Soapbox at the upcoming Carlsbad Chamber First Friday Breakfast on November 4 from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. We will give a history of CCF, talk about ways to get involved and promote our member event on December 1. We would love to see as many of you there as possible supporting us!
With momentum behind us, we have a CCF event coming up in December and look forward to seeing all of our members and guests. Please mark your calendar for December 1 at 6 p.m. at the home of Pam Valinet, Past Chair & Founding Member.
Please check us out on Facebook for updates and postings about CCF.
I truly cherish being part of CCF and the impact we make on our local community. The Board is here to serve the needs of our members, so if you know of local companies or friends that would benefit from partnering with us, please don’t hesitate to put us in touch.
Members and your guests are always welcome to join us at our events so that they can experience firsthand the benefits of being a member of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation.
