It was wonderful to have so many community members attend our Annual Hats Off to Volunteers event on April 14 at Rancho Bernardo High School. More than 70 volunteers were recognized and received a hat for their volunteer service to our community.
In fact, our very own Board Member, Steve Dreyer, was honored for his work with the grants committee of the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation (RBCF). Congratulations, Steve!
Also in RBCF news, our grants committee will soon be pouring over all the grant requests submitted for funding in 2018. The committee reviews all the applications and then participates in site visits with the organizations that will potentially be placed on the ballot. Last year, we awarded more than $70,000 in grants to nonprofits serving Rancho Bernardo. We want to thank all the grants committee members who put so much work into vetting the potential grantees.
Save the Date
Since 1988, the RBCF grants have supported projects and organizations that focus on senior services, youth activities, recreation, the arts, educational enhancement, civic enhancement and community protection. These grants are presented in November at the Thanksgiving Luncheon every year.
This year, we are changing the date for our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. A number of community members have been letting us know that they now travel during the week of Thanksgiving. In an effort to make the event more accessible to our members and the community, we will be having the Thanksgiving Luncheon on Friday, November 16. Mark your calendars now!
At the event, we will be celebrating 30 years of impact in Rancho Bernardo and will recognize the efforts of all past board members. In preparation for the November event, if you have ever served on the board, please contact Trudy Armstrong at trudy@sdfoundation.org so we can include you.
Community News
Created in 1993, the Pathway of Pride, an iconic walkway that winds through Webb Park, is a community initiative that honors impactful individuals and organizations with a permanent plaque in their name. Donors can recognize a specific individual by making a $1,000 tax-deductible donation that will benefit the Rancho Bernardo community endowment and the annual RBCF grants program. Our community endowment now exceeds $1.3 million! As of 2018, there are a total of 296 plaques honoring longtime residents, community leaders, organizations, and businesses. Contact Dave Brooks at davebrooks@san.rr.com to inquire about having a plaque installed for 2018, and stayed tuned for more information about this year’s honorees.
Lastly, if you have any friends or neighbors who may be interested in making a difference in the Rancho Bernardo community, please encourage them to join RBCF by visiting our website, or contacting Trudy Armstrong at trudy@sdfoundation.org or 619-764-8602.
