August 6, 2020 – San Diego, CA – The San Diego Foundation announced that Dr. Pamela Luster and Pedro Villegas have joined the Board of Governors for two-year terms.
“Pamela and Pedro join The Foundation at an important time as we continue to support our communities impacted by the coronavirus pandemic while also addressing inequities that exist throughout the San Diego region, shared Mark Stuart, President & CEO of The San Diego Foundation. “Their wealth of expertise and experience will be invaluable in this work.”
The San Diego Foundation Board of Governors is composed of 21 volunteers with diverse professional expertise and backgrounds who are involved in and provide leadership for many community and charitable organizations. The Board oversees The Foundation by establishing strategic priorities and approving budgets and grants.
About the new Board of Governors members:
Dr. Pamela Luster
Dr. Pamela Luster is the President of San Diego Mesa College, one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the U.S. In her role, Pamela focuses on student equity on campus while fostering an inclusive and engaging environment for faculty, staff, students and administrators. She is committed to finding permanent solutions to address the basic needs of community college students. Previously, she served as the Vice President of Student Services, Interim Vice President of Instruction and Dean of Academic Services at Las Positas College. At West Valley College, she held the position of Dean of Career Education and Workforce Development and started her career as a faculty member in the Disabled Students program. Pamela’s service includes membership on several local, state and national boards including San Diego Youth Services, San Diego Mesa College Foundation, California Community College Athletics Association, and the American Association of Community Colleges Commission for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She currently serves on the Chief Executive Officers of California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board representing Region XI and is co-chairing the CEOCCC Task Force on Affordability, Food and Housing.
Pedro Villegas
Pedro Villegas is Director of Community Relations for the San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 company based in San Diego. Pedro is responsible for SDG&E’s corporate philanthropy and relations with nonprofit and community-based organizations in San Diego County and south Orange County. In addition to his leadership at SDG&E, Pedro has held several leadership positions in the California State Assembly, serving as Deputy Director of the Speaker’s Office of International Relations and Protocol; Principal Consultant to the Assembly Committee on Jobs, the Economy, and Economic Development; and Senior Consultant to the Assembly Select Committee on California-Mexico Affairs. Pedro is a dedicated community leader who volunteers his time on numerous nonprofit boards and committees, including RISE San Diego, San Diego Tourism Authority, National Conflict Resolution Center, Downtown San Diego Partnership, CONNECT and the ComicCon Museum.
