Michelle Jaramillo

Director, Education Initiatives

As Director of Education Initiatives at the San Diego Foundation (SDF), Michelle directs investment strategies in K-12, expanded learning, teacher diversity and college pathways. Alongside community partners, she works to ensure San Diego’s students, particularly those who sit furthest from opportunity, can achieve their educational and career aspirations. She advocates for San Diego’s educational needs and opportunities as a member of the Grantmakers for Education, OST Impact Group Steering Committee and active member of California Education Funders Collaborative.

Building on two decades of experience in capacity-building, leadership development, program design and strategic communications, Michelle has worked with regional, national and international partners to advance equity, support youth, their families and communities. She is the former SDF Community Impact Director. She previously served as Director of Communications for the San Diego Housing Federation where she led advocacy efforts around affordable housing and sustainable land-use policies. For over a decade, as Director of Programs for the U.S.-Mexico Philanthropy Partnership, Michelle worked with a binational network of 21 community foundations to nurture community philanthropy and civic leadership in the borderlands.

Michelle has a BA in Political Science and Latin American Studies from the University of Toronto and MA in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego. Michelle serves on the Leadership Council of the Latina Giving Circle of San Diego and on the Board of Directors for Girls Inc. of San Diego.
